Speed Trailer Back in the the neighborhood at the request of NIEBNA Board Member Jeffrey Meehan

From note from Jeffrey to 2nd Precinct Inspector Todd Loining — “I was very pleased to see the ‘speed trailer’ placed at University Avenue and 1st Avenue NE yesterday.

I believe it was helping, as I observed brake lights on a number of vehicles coming over the crest of University Avenue hill as they approached 1st Avenue.  Throughout the day, there is random speeding up and down the hill, and that certainly includes outbound traffic at bar closing.  I suspect many of those vehicles are “alcohol fueled” at that time of the day!  As an example, I have one neighbor who will not walk her dog on University Avenue hill during A.M. rush hour for fear of the speeding inbound traffic.  Inbound 1st Avenue traffic issues at University have diminished somewhat – caused by the construction bottleneck adjacent to US Bank and Nord Haus.

The Neighborhood has often sited traffic control — especially speeding and dangerous intersections —  as one of our top law enforcement and livability issues, so anything you and your officers can do to calm traffic throughout the NIEB area will be greatly appreciated!  As always, if there is anything I can do to assist, please let me know.”
